How to make a start?
I work with a limited number of couples in business at any one time. Every enquiry is reviewed personally and carefully, and if your situation is within the scope of my work, you will be invited to a confidential consultation to explore fit, scope and next steps.
The process below exists because the work we do together is significant. I take the time to get it right from the start as it's the foundation of everything that follows.
Seven steps
Step 1. Conversation
Every engagement begins with a confidential enquiry.
You share a brief outline of what has prompted you to reach out and what you hope to achieve. If your situation is within the scope of my work, I will invite you to complete a short set of questions so I can better understand your relationships and your business. All conversations and information shared are treated with complete confidentiality.
If I feel another professional would be better suited to support you, I will happily refer you to someone I trust.
Step 2. Discovery
Once I have reviewed your responses, I consider the dynamics of your family and your business and identify the most appropriate way for us to work together. This stage allows me to understand the relationships, pressures and aims shaping your situation. At this point, I share more details about the way I work.
Step 3. Alignment
If it feels that we may be well suited to work together, we arrange a conversation with yourself and any other key people who are involved. During this call we explore where you're at in more depth, discuss how the work may unfold and answer any questions you may have.
The goal is to ensure that everyone involved understands the purpose of the work and feels comfortable moving forward together.
Step 4. Engagement
Following our conversation, I prepare a document outlining the scope of the work, expected timelines and the commitments involved for everyone taking part.
We then complete the working agreement and organise practical details such as scheduling and payment.
Step 5. Partnership
From there, our work together begins. We will regularly talk about how the work is progressing and if you are satisfied - this ensures that we are on track and can make any adjustments if required.
Depending on your needs, this work may include mediation, strategic conversations, governance design, succession planning, or ongoing advisory support.
To date, it has been common that once an ongoing partnership has ended after it's agreed length of time, my clients ask to continue an advisory relationship at lighter touch points. I am more than happy to continue working with my clients on a open-ended contract and welcome this conversation.
